We leave you the interview with Lorena OnFit after his victory in the Championship in Barcelona.
1. What was your first thought when you took first place at the 2018 Barcelona Championships?
It's a quite inexplicable mix of emotions, the nerves, the uncertainty leave you a bit blank at that moment. When I reacted, the first thing that popped into my head were the people with whom I share my day-to-day life; my father, my partner, my friends, my coach... In a way, they live everything with me and to be able to see their satisfaction and to be able to share my triumph with them is my greatest reward.
2. How did you feel after winning another first place and also the absolute first place in the Tarragona Provincial?
It was incredible and I think one of the most exciting moments I have experienced so far in my racing career. The truth is that I was really looking forward to this particular championship. The previous year I had attended as a spectator and I really enjoyed watching it; the place where it was held, the organisation and the whole championship itself was very charming. Besides, the fact that the fight for the absolute title was being disputed made it even more attractive, so I had to show up YES or YES hehe.
I got the first place in my Bikini category (+1,69cm) with a total of 11 beautiful competitors. Then I was eligible to fight for the Absolute prize in the bikini category where all the winners of each respective size were compared (a total of 6 athletes).
The level was very high, all the competitors had spectacular physiques. The truth is that I didn't expect it. It is true that I had visualised it in my head but I didn't think it would materialise. When I heard my bib number I went completely blank and my heart skipped a beat, it was an incredible feeling. When I came back out on stage I saw my father, my partner and all my friends shouting with happiness and a big shiver ran through my body; I had done it!
And I would like to take this opportunity to thank the organisation of the championship and all the sponsors for making the experience even more unforgettable. I think that what makes a championship a success is the care with which the competitor is taken care of and in this one in particular the refreshments, the space on the back stage and the whole organization in general was great, I give it a 10! 😛
3. ¿How would you describe your experience from setting the goal to achieving it?
AMAZING. I really enjoy the process and that is what makes me live it so intensely and with so much enthusiasm. For me it is not a sacrifice, no matter how hard it can be. The passion with which I do it keeps my motivation awake and makes everything so much more exciting.
I value every day, every meal, every training session and I try to savour every step because, at the end of the day, the part in which you show your work is just a few minutes on stage and the key is to live the rest of the process to the fullest.
4. Who has been your coach/mentor in this process?
For a little over a year now, I have been going hand in hand with Naiche Hurtado. We started working together simply looking for an aesthetic goal to get in shape. Until last October when, during one of my regular check-ups, I proposed to him that I would compete again in 2018 and that he would be my guide in the process. From that moment we set dates and got down to work with the preparation to try to show a new version of Lorena.
Today he has become one of the fundamental pillars in my day to day life. We talk daily (in fact he is the first person I talk to every day haha) and I think that every time the union and understanding we have makes us both enjoy this preparation more and more.
I am a very diligent student and my respect and trust for him is very high. I try to absorb and learn as much as possible from everything. The truth is that I feel very fortunate and grateful to have a professional of his stature as a guide and above all to be able to share this path with such a great person.
5. What has been the hardest part of your preparation?
Well, I couldn't say anything specific. We have done things in good time and well and it has not been a particularly "hard" preparation. Maybe the first few weeks until the habit was established. In those moments, willpower plays a fundamental role after so many months without following a strict diet. But it was only a few days, I was very clear about my goal and that kept me strong against temptations.
6. What is your diet and training like in competition?
I currently train 6 days a week for an average of 1 hour in the gym and these last few weeks we have added post-workout cardio (25-30 minutes on the treadmill or elliptical) to get to the point we are looking for.
I train lower body at frequency 3, where I do one day more focused on quadriceps and femoral, another dedicated exclusively to gluteus and a third in which I do a review of gluteus and femoral with more analytical exercises. The rest of the days I work on upper body and I usually do 2 muscle groups per day.
In terms of diet, we have been varying throughout the process. As the date has been approaching we have been cutting calories and reducing carbohydrate intake while maintaining and always prioritising the peri-training (before and after training).
But in general everything is very basic and natural, avoiding anything processed: rice, chicken, vegetables, fish, egg whites, olive oil... Not very different from how I usually eat out of preparation.
7. What is your favourite #cheatmeal post-competition?
I'm always torn between pizza and burger. On the one hand, I love pizza, but on the other hand, the burgers' starters and side dishes make me lose myself; some good chips, nachos or tequeños make me choose this option more.
And for dessert, some ice cream if I feel like it, but I'm not very sweet either, so I don't usually overdo it with sugar.
8. What sports supplementation do you use during preparation and why?
During this preparation the supplements I have used have been:
- All Day EnergyI have a mineral multivitamin to make sure that despite having a less varied diet, I am not deficient in any micronutrient.
- ZMA which helps to increase natural testosterone levels and therefore enhance muscle growth and strength. I take it pre-workout and before bedtime.
- Total Rush 2.0 as a per-workout to give me an extra push on days when I was more tired.
- ThermoCaps to boost fat burning. I take one cap with breakfast and another 30 minutes before my workout.
- Omega 3 for a supply of Omega 3 fatty acids. I include it post-workout and before bedtime.
- Bcaa's + Glutamine I have taken pre and post workout, to promote muscle growth and recovery.
9. If you had to choose a TOP 3 from all the products which WEIDER products are your favourites and why?
Without a doubt my favourites are:
- Total Rush which for me is the best per-workout I've ever tried. In addition to giving me an extra boost of energy for those days when I'm not feeling my best when it comes to training, I love the feeling of congestion that it gives me in my most demanding workouts.
- Another top product that can't be missing in my ranking are the bars. Yippiewhich are, without a doubt, my favourites. All the flavours are incredibly good but the Cookies&Cream and Chocolate&Coco are my favourites.
- And last but not least, I can't forget my other favourite bars, the Recovery Bar or as I call them; "fit bones". The wafer texture and chocolate coating make them irresistible. My favourite flavours: yoghurt and Maria biscuit.
10. Why did you choose WEIDER and what values do you share with the brand?
For me, Weider has always been a reference point. In my house I have breathed bodybuilding since I was a child and Weider has always been present. My father used to drink Weider's Weider protein and I always wanted to try them. In fact, more than once I had sneaked to the cupboard where I kept them and ate a scoop hehe (I must say that the flavours have improved and evolved a lot over the years hehe).
Being part of the TEAM Weider was one of the most important moments in my career in the fitness. The love for the sport, the camaraderie, the tradition and the quality make me very proud to belong to the Weider family.
11. And to finish this interview with Lorena OnFit? What is your next goal?
This month I will participate in the Provincial of Girona and the Catalan Championship and I will close my stage of regional championships to set my course for the Spanish Championship and to participate in my first competition at international level: the IFBB Diamond Cup which will be held on 25, 26 and 27 May in Madrid.
